February 7, 2013—San Diego, CA and Tokyo, Japan—PacketVideo, a fully-owned subsidiary of NTT DOCOMO, INC., today announced that Mark Tapling has joined the company as CEO and President. Mr. Tapling brings over 20 years of progressive experience in the strategy, growth and financial management of technology companies to his new position at PacketVideo, where he will focus on solidifying the company’s leadership position in the media technology space.

In conjunction with the appointment of Mr. Tapling, PacketVideo founder and former CEO James Brailean, Ph.D. will leave the company to pursue other interests. Dr. Brailean will serve as an informal advisor to PacketVideo during the transition period.

A former recipient of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, Mr. Tapling received his B.S. from Michigan State University.

The two companies will create a HDMI dongle for sale in the domestic Chinese market.

The HDMI dongle plugs into the HDMI port on a user’s TV and uses PacketVideo’s Twonky software to playback personal and web content on the television.   The dongle will support DLNA and be optimized for use with PacketVideo’s Twonky Beam Browser with support for the most popular content sites in China, including YouKu, PPTV, Sina, 56.com, and others.  The dongle will also support Airplay, enabling users to download their favorite application with Airplay support from the Apple Store and play content directly to their TV.
